Lebron James is Best NBA Player and Manny Pacquiao is Best Fighter at ESPY Awards 2009
MVP of this NBA Season, Lebron James was named as the Best NBA Player while our very own Pound-for-Pound king and boxing champion, Manny Pacquiao was proclaimed as the Best Fighter both at the 17th ESPY Awards Night 2009 held at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles City live last Wednesday.

The awarding ceremony was hosted by Samuel L. Jackson, which will be televised on ESPN and ESPN HD on Sunday, July 19 at 9:00 p.m. ET (Monday in the Philippines).
ESPY Awards is an annual sports award ceremony created by American cable television network ESPN. It begun since 1993 in order to recognize great sport performances and athletes’ athletic achievement during a calendar year preceding a given ceremony.

Lebron James was chosen by million of fans to get the award edging out his co-NBA superstars Kobe Bryant, Dwayne Wade and Dwight Howard. Well it was not a big surprise after James produced an averaged 28.4 points, 7.6 rebounds and 7.2 assists last season and took the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Eastern Conference Finals. But in contrary, Best Team was given to Los Angeles Lakers.
But eventhough, James was named the NBA Best Player, the Best Male Athlete award was given to the Olympic champion swimmer Michael Phelps. As we remembered, Phelps, who was honoured as the Best US Olympians, gave a record breaking performance and won eight (8) gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Michael Phelps also was chosen to get the Best Championship Performance award instead of Lebron James and Kobe Bryant.
Meanwhile, the Philippines’ pride and boxing champion, Manny Pacquiao grabbed the Best Fighter Award beating out MMA stars Lyoto Machida and Anderson Silva and his fellow boxer Sugar Shane Mosley.
Manny’s sensational 2-round knockout fight with IBO light-welterweight king Ricky Hatton last May and his eight-round fight with Oscar dela Hoya five months ago earned his right to get the ESPN’s online votes.
