August 5, 2009 A Philippine Special Non-Working Holiday:Corazon Aquino Funeral and Burial
August 5, 2009, Wednesday, President Macapagal-Arroyo declared a special non-working holiday throughout the Philippines to pay attention and respect to late and former President Corazon Aquino funeral and burial, news headline reports and radio broadcast said last Sunday.
This day was declared as a special non-working holiday to give many Filipino people around the nation a chance to witness and take a great part of the last few moments of the Philippine People Power Icon, who brought the democracy and freedom across the nation, Corazon Aquino before she brought to her final resting place at the Manila Memorial Park.
President Arroyo also declared a 10-day period of national mourning from August 1-10 on the death of Cory Aquino through the said Proclamation No. 1850.
According to the news, she will be laid down to rest beside her husband, Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino, Jr.
The burial and funeral session will start a mass at 9:00 a.m. Some government sectors already wished to convey their sympathies on the death of the former President Corazon Aquino by signing some condolence books.
Corazon Aquino was diagnosed with a colon cancer last March 2009. She was then confined at the Makati Medical Center to take medications and series of chemotherapies, and was died of a cardiac arrest due to complications and loss of appetite.
Now, Malacanang Palace officials are coordinating with the first family of former President Aquino about the funeral arrangement but the Aquino family just wished not to accept the offer of the government for a state funeral for their own private reasons. But instead, the public can view and pay their last respects to Cory Aquino’s remains at the La Salle Greenhills from 5 p.m. yesterday till Monday. Viewing proper will start from 7 a.m. up to 4 a.m. only on the next day.
