How to Transfer your Blog from Old Webhost to the New Webhost without downtime?
Last 2 weeks ago, I was able to transfer this domain or blog from its old webhost to the new webhosting. I bought a webhosting package for one year to Hostmonster.com and it is now the current host that servicing my blogs now.
Transferring your blog from old webhost to new webhost is quite easy thing to do if you really knows how to do, but in my case I encountered many problems since it was my first time to do that without any experience on techi matters. I’m not an IT graduate that is why I encountered some difficulties with the technical terms. But thanks a lot to all my blogger friends who helped me out to pursue this transferring, namely Zalds of zalds.com, Dexter of techathand.net and Donald of donaldserrano.com.
Now for the benefit of those bloggers who are now planning to move to a new webhost specially when you are planning to transfer to hostmonster, this guide might be so useful for you to ease your job of transferring all your files to a new home.
Remember that the main purpose of this guide is to transfer your blog from old webhost to the new webhost without encountering downtime. As if it runs so normal that your visitors can still view and visit your blogs without knowing that you already transferring to a new server. Remember that this might only apply in transferring to hostmonster. The suggested method or procedures might be the same with other host because of the common characteristics of the control panel. Here are now the steps:
- Open a webhosting account from your new webhost.
Most of the reasons why you are planning to transfer to another host maybe because you are not so happy with the service of your present host. You usually encounters downtimes specially when voluminous traffic arises to your blog, and this truly happened to my blog. Now your goal is to transfer your blog, definitely you need to open and pay a webhosting plan to a new webhost.
- Download all your files from your present wordpress account.
I assume that you already upgrade your wordpress into its latest version. If not, you might do it so first before downloading your files. At the Tools section of your wp-admin, click the export in the menu bar and and download your database file then save it to your pc’s hard drive.
Now at your FTP, download all your important files saved at the wp-content. I assume also that you know all your important files there. In my case, I download all my existing files in themes, plugins, and uploads folders under the wp-content, and save it also to your hard drive.
- Install a new wordpress from your new webhost server.
There are available icon in your cpanel in which you may access in installing a new wordpress from new server. After installing a new wordpress, at your original webhost cpanel, change or update the DNS of your domain to the new DNS of your new webhost server. The propagation might take effect within 30 minutes or more.
- After updating the DNS, transfer all your important files save at the hard drive to your new account through the use of Filezilla or Smart FTP Clients.
- Access now your new wordpress account and import all your database file. At the wp-admin of your wordpress click the tools and import all your files there.
Now you already transfer your blog to your new webhost without encountering downtime. You may continue blogging after doing this so. In this steps, your visitors will never encountered problems of downtime and can freely access your blog without knowing that you already transferred to a new webhost.
Now if there are steps here that was not clearly explain, please contact or write it back here in comment page. I will try my best to answer your queries to the best of my knowledge. That’s all for the tips now and happy blogging.
